One of the biggest communication challenges people have is finding ways to communicate to another person what is troubling them. This is especially true when there is high emotion. When we think about how we want to tell someone what’s troubling us, our focus is usually on the points we want to make. We often neglect to consider how best to deliver that information in a way that the other person will feel safe hearing. “I-messages” help convey information, including about emotions, in a clear, constructive way, and without attack.
